FOLIO Launches Nolana Release

~ Latest FOLIO Platform Update Includes Additional Functionality and User Experience Improvements ~

PHILADELPHIA — December 15, 2022 — The FOLIO Open Source Community has issued its fourteenth named release as the platform continues to add features and functionality to the library services platform (LSP). The Nolana Release contains updates to existing apps and features including acquisitions, bulk-edit, electronic resource management (ERM) and many more.

The Nolana Release offers platform enhancements that provide librarians with a better user experience in the FOLIO platform. Platform improvements include:

  • UX improvements for cataloging, data import, circulation (calendar app)
  • Acquisitions: Ability to preview fiscal year rollover, generate new invoices from order records, download and resend EDIFACT order export files from the Export manager app and a user interface to manage GOBI integration
  • ERM: Enhancements include ability to manage and share dashboards, enhanced agreement key word searching, ability to search and filter agreement lines, display alternate titles and export package and title details via eholdings app
  • Expanded bulk-edit capabilities: Ability to bulk edit user records in app, FOLIO holdings locations and item loan types

Cornell University Director of Acquisitions and E-Resource Licensing Services and member of the FOLIO Product Council, Jesse Koennecke, says the Nolana Release shows the FOLIO project members’ dedication to improving the overall experience for libraries adopting FOLIO. “With numerous libraries fully operating on FOLIO and others actively implementing, we continue to grow and adapt to the needs of libraries and consortia through platform releases like Nolana. The features included in our platform releases, many of which are not available with traditional ILS vendors, are developed by FOLIO community librarians focusing on improvements to library workflow and efficiency.”

Institutions have taken a variety of pathways when moving to FOLIO, between full implementation to starting with ERM (electronic resource management) functionality before replacing an existing ILS, or by leveraging FOLIO apps such as circulation and inventory.

As libraries continue to implement the FOLIO LSP, FOLIO developers ensure that components can be readily developed or replaced in new releases as technologies and requirements evolve. The next release will be Orchid, which is expected in March 2023. Information about the FOLIO Community and the upcoming releases can be found at https://wiki.folio.org. Details on the full list of improvements in the Nolana Release can be found at the FOLIO Wiki.

FOLIO also levels the playing field and makes open source technology available to all institutions regardless of size or staffing. FOLIO brings vendors together to innovate and host services for customers and introduces open source as a service to libraries.
