In the past, libraries with limited technical resources may have found it difficult to implement open source library software. FOLIO changes this.
Beyond a next-gen solution, FOLIO is 100% driven by and open to the community, so you don’t need to deal with “forced packages” and “predetermined workflows.” Because of the innate flexibility, libraries will have a system including traditional resource management (ILS) functionality with only the applications they want. Rest assured that any application you choose — from different vendors or developers — will work together in harmony.
No need to answer the question “who do I call?” when you need support working with various applications. SirsiDynix, ByWater, EBSCO and others will offer full hosting and support services to support your day-to-day and strategic needs.
As a true open source project, any library can choose to host and operate FOLIO locally. The software is free to any library (except your own staff and technology expenses!).
